In the face of economic uncertainty and rising daily costs,
Nigerians are tightening their belts, cutting down on expenses, and budgeting meticulously to make ends meet.
Yet, amidst this financial scrutiny, there remains a glaring lack of transparency regarding the budget of the Lagos State government.
For 44 days and counting, the budget has been concealed from the public eye, leaving Lagosians in the dark about how their hard-earned tax Naira is being allocated and spent. At a time when every penny counts, this opacity is unacceptable.
The budget is more than just a financial document; it’s a blueprint that outlines the government’s priorities and commitments to its citizens. It determines which projects will receive funding and how public resources will be utilized for the betterment of society.
Labour Party Lagos is calling on the Lagos State government to uphold its duty to transparency and accountability by immediately releasing the budget to the public. Lagosians have a right to know how their tax contributions are being managed and allocated, especially in times of economic uncertainty.
Transparency fosters trust between the government and the governed, and it is essential for ensuring good governance and effective utilization of public funds. We urge the Lagos State government to prioritize transparency and fulfill its obligation to the people by promptly publishing the budget.
It’s time to shed light on the government’s financial plans and restore confidence in our democratic processes. Release the budget now!
