CAPP BANNER

The launch of the Citizens’ Application for Political Participation (CAPP) marks a a pivotal moment

in Nigeria’s journey toward more inclusive and engaged governance.

This civic tech tool was designed with one clear mission: to empower Nigerians to actively participate in shaping the future of their country.

Jude McKelvin,  product manager of CAPP, played a crucial role in turning this vision into reality. From ideation to execution,

Jude was deeply involved in every aspect of the project, ensuring that the platform’s features,

like its user-friendly interface and citizen contribution tools, would make political participation more accessible to all.

“The development process required a blend of technical expertise, strategic planning, and a deep understanding of the political landscape,”

Jude said, highlighting the dedication that fueled CAPP’s creation.

Amirah Hassan, team lead for the Citizens’ Participation in Governance Group (CPG 1), reflects on the journey with pride.

“CAPP started as a suggestion from a team member, and I cannot believe that the viability of the idea was ever contested,” she said.

The project evolved rapidly, with numerous meetings and brainstorming sessions focusing on transparency, accountability, and citizen participation.

Amirah’s vision for CAPP is clear:

“CAPP will be the beginning of truly uniting the Office of the Citizen towards one goal—building a better Nigeria for us all.”

Aminah Oyenike Siyanbola, from the Project Design Team, shared her excitement about the app’s impact.

Before CAPP’s launch, advocacy campaigns revealed the public’s eagerness to embrace the app’s potential.

Now, post-launch, the app is quickly becoming an essential tool for civic engagement. With daily downloads and increasing user engagement,

Aminah sees CAPP as “the long-awaited puzzle piece in the grand scheme of governance.”

Omobosola Karimat Alaka, the Project Manager, echoed these sentiments. As a social scientist with a passion for citizen engagement,

Omobosola sees CAPP as more than just a professional milestone—it’s a transformational effort to create a more informed and active populace.

“CAPP aims to bridge the gap between citizens and the governance structures that affect their lives,” she said, emphasizing the importance of fostering a culture of civic responsibility.

Together, these passionate individuals and their team have created a platform that not only enhances political participation but

also promises to revolutionize the way Nigerians interact with their government.

As CAPP continues to evolve, its potential to reshape Nigeria’s democratic landscape is already palpable.
