In recent times the joy of the 4th Republic has been crushed , the daunting silence is so confusing to me. I mean Nigerians resisted the dictatorial Military regime especially that of Abacha that was authoritarian, how come a stolen mandate is getting away with this injustice.

I heard and have read about the Aftermath of the June 12 Presidential election, the first since the 1983 military coup that was supposed to end the country’s Second Republic. The elections was the outcome of a transitional process to civilian rule spearheaded by the military ruler, Ibrahim Babangida.

Could it be true that it was a Yoruba Mandate in 1993 and in 2023 its history repeating itself all over again but this time the ones once oppressed by the military are now the oppressors . We were told Nigerian Elites and technocrats stood against the military after the agreement was broken by the military.

Could it be that a particular tribe were just fighting for democracy for the sake of themselves and not for Nigeria as a whole ? Have checked through and none of the people alive then are talking. I mean they were the youths then and they resisted so why do they expect the youth of today to sit back and do nothing ?

The 2023 Elections clearly failed all credibilities of free and fair apart from being marred with electoral violence incited by the ruling party , bigotry was the order of the day which distracted citizens from the real issues and turned it to a needless tribal war against the Igbos.

I watched as the so-called fighters of democracy stood with the All Progressive Congress (APC) regardless of the consequences it bore for the democracy they fought for .

Could it be because the APC candidate who was one of the frontier fighters of NADECO is from a particular Tribe ? I mean what benefit is it of the whole country for INEC to spend 355bn on Elections and over 75% of it ends in court . Why is there so much silence ? Have we all forgotten the meaning of democracy ?

The judiciary these days seem to conveniently rule on technicalities at Tribunals , Justice is far away from them especially when it comes to election matters , if it’s not a pre election matter its a post election matter was the Electoral Act of 2022 created by aliens ? How come it has so many premature loopholes that could have been easily sighted by an undergraduate lawyer student.

The real foundation it was built on was the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) that was neglected during the 2023 elections results were not transmitted Live from the polling units.

The Sept 6th Judgement threw these addresses out of court without a single hesitation, it even mentioned political parties that were not ready to protect their votes should not run for political offices .

If the judiciary can’t give hope to the common man if they negate their words and the country’s constitution based on their moods or probably for personal benefits are we not in trouble , is our democracy not in trouble ? What exactly makes any sense anymore ?

I spent months reading the 2022 electoral act page by page for the sake of knowledge now the justices are technically telling me what myself other millions of Nigerians read is false ? I mean 25 % in Abuja was clearly stated but we were told on  Sept 6th that Abuja is just any other state of the federation so it’s not special.

It is starting to seem like an autocratic democracy which is a form of government that presents itself as democratic, while also presenting qualities of an authoritarian state, with all the power concentrated in the ruling elite. Elections may occur, but they are often manipulated, and checks and balances are weakened.

With the government controlling public opinion and silencing their critics as we have seen in the case of Chike Ibezim who has been in custody for over 40 days for a crime he didn’t commit but has been held in place of his brother who the DSS were truly after.

Well let’s be factual with ourselves if we are not there yet we are definitely heading there with APC system of governance. The 3 arms of government have now fused. Akpabio visibly goes to the state house to get instructions on how to run the National Assembly, what bills to pass , the green and red chambers barely have disagreements, Members votes seem to be staged and expected.

Just recently we witnessed an open violation of the house rules with the present chief whip Ali Ndume having a clear disagreement with senate president although it was later denounced as a misconstruction the message is clear. National assembly members don’t freely express their opinions openly especially when it relates to the executive.

They are reminded of their place or put in their place by the Senate president and the speaker quickly. The oppositions ( PDP, APC & Co ) are almost gagged or been bought who knows but they barely lend their voice when they do, they are voting for the ruling party that are not even the collective majority.

We now have a democracy that lacks separation of power among the individual arms, that lacks rule of law and gradually backsliding into autocracy. We now have a country with tension amongst its tribes that has not been this much since the civil war. We now have a country where civil demonstration and protests are almost forbidden and tagged acts of terrorism so to speak.
